The Science/Spanish Program at Westgarth follows the Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) model. The focus of such a pedagogical model is to deliver learning outcomes for all students in both Content/Science and Language/Spanish by providing a meaningful context for purposeful language learning.
Prep to Year 6 students attend one session of Science/Spanish per week. Students are involved in hands on investigations that promote individual and collaborative learning. They apply their learning to a variety of activities that cover speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Alongside science related language, students’ routine language is constantly developed to enable increasingly sophisticated communication in Spanish.
The Science/Spanish program is planned and delivered in close collaboration with the Art/Spanish program so that language introduced in one is reinforced, consolidated and expanded in the other.
The Westgarth Languages Working Party (LWP) reviewed the Languages Education Policy in August 2013.
